George Onyango Biography
George is an experience leader in youth leadership and management. He has worked with various youth organizations in Nairobi, some of which he helped found. He has helped train youth in leadership and management skills, and as well supported institutions helping AIDS orphaned children in Kenya. In 2003, Mr. Onyango was the Festival Coordinator of Africamix-Kenya, which raised funds for and awareness about child health, well-being, and abuse, focusing in particular on HIV/AIDS in Kenya. Mr. Onyango is also a member of international arts coalition, ActALIVE, whose members use the arts to address HIV/AIDS. He has been organizing a series of parties for children living in four different homes in Nairobi, all of whom are HIV/AIDS-affected, and many of whom are orphans since 2003. This is a yearly event that George organizes to raise funds to organize Christmas parties for several homes that deals with orphans and HIV positive children.
George was Jury Member for the 2007Global Young Social Entrepreneurs' Competition, a Program under the Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) supporting emerging young entrepreneurs around the world.
Between August 2004 and May 2005, Mr. Onyango undertook a certificate in Nonprofit Management from Johns Hopkins University, Institute for Policy Studies, Center for Civil Society Studies, specializes in Managing Nonprofit Organizations, Evaluation and Monitoring, and Strategic Planning in Baltimore, Maryland-U.S.A. Prior to that, Mr. Onyango had taken a Management of Information Systems course (Diploma I &II) at the Kenya School of Professional Studies Between January 1997- September 1998 in Nairobi-Kenya.
George is volunteering with a number of organizations around the world such as Health and Development Network based in Thailand where he is a reporter, and TakingITGlobal an international organization - led by youth and enabled by technology, of which Mr. Onyango is a Project Editor. His duties & responsibilities includes:
• Editing and approving Projects that are submitted into the TakingITGlobal online
Projects Database.
• Responding to general member email inquiries
As the Deputy Director with Slums Information Development & Resource Centres (SIDAREC), an organization he helped found, Mr. Onyango oversee arrange of programs which are geared towards solving community problems.
