A Traveling Fan's Guide to College Football

Total cost of project including all sources of funding:
$100,000
Expected amount of time to complete project:
six months

College football in the SEC and Big 12 is centered in small towns. (Austin and Nashville are the largest, with nothing over 750,000.) There is also great history with these universities - some established in the 1700s.

For college football fans, this would be a way to learn about:

Local bars and restaurants
Places to stay
Local historic sites / places of interest
Traffic in and out
Tailgates (where, who sponsored, open to all, closed), for visiting teams where those spots are available, and how friendly they might be.

How will your project improve the way news and information are delivered to geographic communities?

Small Towns Hold Much Information

The current media in these areas are, for the most part, small town papers. They don't have a large enough presence to accommodate the detailed information available.

How is your idea innovative? (New or different from what already exists.)

Scattered Bits of Information

There's no single site that pulls this information together. There are conference sites (Big 12, SEC) and university sites (utexas.edu), and media sites in those towns, but nothing that pulls all the information together and filters it for the particular audience of college football fans.

What experience do you or your organization have to successfully develop this project?

Former Sportswriter, Current Web Native

I began my career as a sportswriter for several papers, and for the past 10 years have been working on the web, helping shape content strategy for companies big and small. I also hold season tickets for the Texas Longhorns and know the passion that lives in the heart of the college football fan.
