Boozeless Food and Fun

Requested amount from Knight News Challenge:
$650,000
Total cost of project including all sources of funding:
$750,000
Expected amount of time to complete project:
3 years

The beer, wine and spirits industries collectively spend billions of dollars every year convincing Americans they need a drink in their hand in order to have a good time. There are no dissenting voices -- unless you count the exploding number of alcohol abuse, DUI and binge-drinking statistics. A key issue is that there has never been a community-level, grass-roots effort to collect all the information that any adult or teen would need to have a great time without alcohol -- until now. Boozeless Food and Fun, which would pilot in New York City, would be the first digital resource to feature suggestions for restaurants, activities and "conversation strategies" that would allow someone to be boozeless and yet still be cool. Eventually, it is our hope to expand Boozeless Food and Fun into a coast-to-coast speaker's bureau, as well as a national book and information products business dedicated to boozeless dining and entertainment.
