“Blogging students” project will be experimented in the districts of Abidjan, the economic capital of Côte d’Ivoire. This project takes root in the fact that Blogging can be utilized as an instrument of personal development and integration into the job market. It consists in giving scholarships to students in last year of university studies but also supervision until they get their first job in return for a commitment to be trained in Blogging techniques and to divulge news in their district for a year. When blogging, the student learn to shape his critical look, to know his environment and to open to others; he also learns to write and to express himself, things that are important to find a job. When blogging the student is exhibited, he is seen and he gets a comparative advantage with regard to the others. The “Blogging students” is also useful to the community for it brings something new to the nearness in the different districts including the shantytowns.

How will your project improve the way news and information are delivered to geographic communities?

Blogging students

In Côte d’Ivoire there are some national media that do not cover sufficiently local information, district information. The collective blog which is going to be published by the “Blogging students” project will fill in this gap.

How is your idea innovative? (New or different from what already exists.)

Blogging students

Our idea is innovative in the way that we will use the blogging for informative purpose, but particularly for social purposes (grants, support in the integration of students into the job market).

What experience do you or your organization have to successfully develop this project?

Blogging students

I have worked as a journalist for traditional French press (Le Monde, Le Point…) and Ivorian ones (Fraternité-Matin, Le Courier d’Abidjan). I am also one the pioneers of blogging and online information in Côte d’Ivoire. The Non-Governmental Organization called the Information and Communication for changing of Behaviors (I3C) is involved in a dynamic promotion of the use of technologies of information by citizens. I3C has created the first platform of blogs in Côte d’Ivoire (http:// www.ivoire-blog.com). It organizes “Abidjan BlogCamp” which is a meeting of training and discussions about the phenomenon of blog.
