Improving information dissemination
By providing underprivileged students with the skills to create as well as a place to post, research and improve their skills, my program brings a whole new community online. They’ll not only gain skills on accessing news and information that previously might have eluded them, they’ll be able to add their voices and ideas to the mix.

Innovation
There is nothing as comprehensive as this out there. Technology changes so rapidly that K-12 can’t keep pace. I’m not only providing students with skills, information, resources and challenges, I’m creating an interactive learning community where students can compete against one another, measure their skills sets against those of kids their own age and be introduced to real world work protocols and environments.

Who am I, and what makes me so qualified?
Who am I, and what makes me so qualified? I’m a 15+ year veteran of the special effects industry. What makes my program so unique is that although there are many free Photoshop or Flash tutorials available online, when it gets to the higher end software packages, the user has to have a certain level of knowledge just to maneuver around. What I’m doing is teaching specific concepts and striping down the package interface to contain just those items needed for each lesson. Once the kids grasp these concepts, they can move into using the commercial interface without being overwhelmed by all of its functions. I’m hoping that a by product of their interest in creating effects like fire, water and explosions is that they’ll pay more attention in math and algebra as they play an integral part in producing photorealistic effects.
